Papley reveals Greene’s threats in SCG brawl

Sydney goal sneak Tom Papley has revealed the exact exchange with GWS skipper Toby Greene during their melee in Saturday’s qualifying final.
The pair, dubbed the “agitators” of the league, went at it after a free kick was awarded to Papley on the quarter-time siren of the Swans’ six-point win on Saturday afternoon at the SCG.
Even once the free kick was paid, Greene went to the turf with the ball and refused to give it to Papley.

It left Swans fans screaming for a 50 metre penalty, but the field umpire looked to calm the frustration, declaring that there was no such thing as a time delay when the siren has already sounded.
Papley quickly threw the ball on his foot, kicking a torpedo from outside 50.

It fell well short of the goals, but Papley had his eye on something else.
Greene.
The pair then engaged in a brawl that saw both sides eventually involved.
Now, Papley has revealed exactly what Greene had to say to him during the fight.
“He’s like … ‘you’re puffed, Paps, you’re puffed. You’re tired mate, you’re tired, you haven’t played in five weeks’,” Papley revealed on his podcast, The Early Crow, on Wednesday.
“Anyway, I obviously wasn’t tired in the last quarter.”
In that last quarter, the Swans came from a 28-point deficit to outrun the Giants and book a home preliminary final at the SCG.
For the match, Papley had 16 disposals and two goals, with one of those coming in the final term as the Swans completed their comeback.

Meantime, Greene kicked only two behinds and had 12 touches in the Giants’ loss.
It’s the latest dig in a season of back-and-forth banter between the two Sydney rivals, following an earlier season swipe from the Giants towards Swans midfielder Isaac Heeney.
Back in July, the Swans posted a video of Heeney’s “heartfelt” apology to supporters after his attempt to overturn a one-match suspension at the AFL appeals board failed, ruling him out of Brownlow contention.
Making light of the video, the Giants uploaded a parody that featured Toby Greene apologising to fans after copping another fine to add to a long list of penalties.
Swans CEO Tom Harley took a shot at Greene’s impersonation of Heeney at the time.
“I did see the Giants’ (post). I’m not going to give it any air — pretty low-brow,” Harley said on SEN radio in July.
“Isaac is a champion of our club and a champion of the game, and talk about growing the game — a bloke from Newcastle brought up on rugby league.

“I wouldn’t have done it.”
The Swans will face the winner of the semi final between Port Adelaide and Hawthorn.
Meantime, the Giants face off against Brisbane in their semi final, with the winner travelling down to the MCG to take on Geelong.
